The two maps compare the situation of Stokeford’s village in two different years: 1930 and 2010. Overall, it can be seen that the main difference is that all the farmlands we see in the 1930 map were replaced by a large amount of houses built by 2010.
A solitary road coming along the right side of the Stoke River characterized the Stokeford village in 1930. The land in between the road and the river mainly hosted farmlands in the south. Northbound, there was a little cluster of houses, some shops and the post-office. Right in the centre of the map, on the right side of the road, there was a garden and a large building. The primary school was located to the north in front of them. The remaining parts were all farmlands.
By 2010, the situation changed. The gardens’ area was replaced by a retirement home, and the large house within it was expanded. Furthermore, two buildings were added to the primary school complex. Lastly, along each side of the main road, an enormous amount of houses was built, replacing the previous farmlands.
