Cambridge 6- test 4- task 1
The charts below give the information about USA marriage and divorce rates between 1970 and 2000, and the marital status of adult Americans in two of the years.
The 2 charts show the quantity of married and divorced Americans in the period between 1970 and 2000 and the marital status of mature people in the USA in 1970 and 2000. Overall, there was a steady reduction in the marriage rate but the number of married people gained the highest percentage.
It is clear that there were 2.5 million of American marriages in 1970, and this number was higher than that of divorces in the USA (1 million). In a span of 30 years, while the number of marriages decreased gradually, the number of people who divorced was generally unchanged. However, the marriages still higher than the divorces.
As it can be seen that 70% of American adults was married, then it had fallen to under 60%. The percentage of this status among American adults was extremely higher than that of other marital status. While the percentage of single people increased slightly from 10% to 20%, the proportion of widowed and divorced people was under 10%.
