In 1966, the 19-to24-year-olds made up about 62% of the total number of the first-time mothers, compare to 36% of those aged 25-30. In the next 40 years, there was a significant drop to 28% in 29-24 age group in its proportion of women having their first child, while those aged 25-30 rised dramatically to 50% before decreasing suddenly to 38% in 2006. Similarly, the percentage of the youngest people fell considerably from 34% to 12% during the period shown.
Turning to the others, from 1966 to 2006, the 30-34 age bracket recorded an enormous climb between 14% and 45% in its proportion of the first-time mothers. Likewise, the 34-to-39-year-olds accounted for 8% of the total number of women having their first child, compared to 3% of those aged over 40. Over the following 40 years, the percentage of women aged 34-39 who gave birth to their first child grew gradually to 30% in comparison with 5% in those oldest age group
