The chart illustrates how families in a nation spent their weekly salary during the period of 50 year since 1968.
As can be seen from the chart, the percentage of weekly income spending on food, fuel, clothing and footwear as well as personal good decreased while the data on housing, transport and leisure witnessed a reverse trend between 1968 and 2018. In addition, the figure for household goods remained unchanged over 50 years beginning from 1968.
To begin with, the proportion of weekly income spending on food dropped dramatically from exactly 35% to around 17% whilst the rate on housing went up significantly by about 9% from 1968 to 2018. Moreover, the ratio of amount which families spent on leisure every week rose up quickly from about 9% to approximate 22%, which was the highest figure of the category in 2018.
One the other hand, family spent least money every week on fuel and power with 6% and 4% in 1968 and 2018 respectively. Concerning the data on clothing went down dramatically by 5% when the figure for transport increased from about 8% to 14%. Additionally, amount of money was spent on personal goods dropped by nearly 6%. Finally, the rate of household goods remained stable after 50 year, at around 8%
