The bar chart illustrates the number of adults (in thousands) taking part in major sports of a particular region in the years 1997 and 2017. In general, total number of people engaging in sports was higher in 2017 than in 1997. Most sport categories saw an increase in adult participation from 1997 to 2017.

More specifically, the most popular activity by adults in both years was Gentle Walking. Least participation was seen in Basketball in 1997. Cricket was the least popular choice in 2017. The number of gym goers remain constant at about 35,000 in both years. For jogging, there was only a marginal increase from around 33,000 adults in 1997 to around 34,000 adults in 2017.

Surprisingly, the highest jump in any sport category was in the case of Basketball closely followed by Hiking and Football. In case of cricket, there is a significant drop from 26,000 adults in 1997 to 5,000 adults in 2017.

To sum up, there was an increase in the number of adults participating in these seven major sports of a given area from 1997 to 2017.
