The chart here shows a comparison of male and female teachers in UK for different educational settings. Clearly, female teachers have outnumbered male teachers by a huge margin in nursery/pre-school and primary school where female teachers are approximately 95% and male teachers constitute a mere less than 5% of the lot.
However, this trend has reversed in university where almost 75% of the teachers are males and only 25%-30% are females. It can be inferred from the chart that women preferred to teach in the basic educational settings where children need more nurturing as compared to specific subject knowledge.
It is interesting that the number of male and female teachers is almost same in case of secondary school, college and private training institute which is approximately 50% for all three educational settings although in secondary school again the number of females is a bit higher and vice-versa in private training institute.
