Overall, cars and food are the areas where masses spent most of their money during this period; however, the other sectors hold one third of the expenditure which soared by the year 1996.
With regards to cars, which undoubtedly gained interest, the expenditure almost doubled at the end of 1996. Spending money on food, in the meantime, which was on the peak in 1966 diminished drastically and became 14% from 44%. Expenditure on computers surged tenfolds while books experienced a significant downfall to 1% from 6%. Americans spent their money on the restaurants 50% more than in the year 1966. Money paid out on petrol and furniture remained almost similar.
