The map demonstrates the changes in the village of Chorleywood over the period between 1868 and 1994.
As it can be seen from the map, there are two main roads crossing the village in south-west and north-east forming a crossroad north-west of the village. The historical part is located between Chorleywood Park and the road in the west with further buildings situated round the railway station in the south-west of the village. In the east, the most recent constructions are concentrated near the cross of the railway and the motorway in the south and a roundabout in the north.
Thus, the railway whose construction was finished in 1909 gave its way for the district around the railway station between 1883 and 1922. Later, the territory south of the railway expanded further alongside it between 1922 and 1970. Further on, the appearance of the motorway in 1970 enabled the village to grow by building five new areas along it between 1970 and 1994.
Overall, the new districts of the village appeared as new ways of transportation were constructed.
