The diagram illustrates the stages involved in the life cycle of a frog.
It is clear that there are seven main stages as the frog develops from egg to mature adult. It is also noticeable that the frog spends time in two distinct locations during the cycle, moving from water to land.
At the first stage of the life cycle, an adult frog lays an egg mass. The eggs will then grow into embryos and then tadpoles that live completely underwater. A tadpole has to go through three different phases and grows in size before moving on to the next stage of development. Then, the front legs of the tadpole start to develop, and a pair of the hind legs begin to form.
The tadpole afterward begins to develop the ability of pulmonary breathing, which marks the end of the period of living underwater. After moving onto land, the young tadpole frog continues to develop and become a fully-grown frog at the end of the cycle.
