The graph and table below give information about water use worldwide and water consumption in two different countries.
The graph and table given illustrate the information about water consumption worldwide and in two different countries respectively.
As it can be seen from the graph for water consumption over the last century, agriculture has always been the largest consumer of water. In 1900 water consumption in agriculture was about 500 cubic kilometres which increased over 100 years to about 3000 cubic kilometres in 2000. In the following place is the industrial use that was much less as compared to agriculture, only about 100 cubic kilometres in 1900, which was almost the same until 1950. After 1950 water usage in industries worldwide significantly increased in a much greater rate, to about 1100 cubic kilometres in 2000. Domestic usage had a similar trend as industries until 1950 which was almost stagnant. Later the consumption reached about 500 cubic kilometres in 2000.
From the table for water consumption of Brazil and Democratic Republic of Congo, it is evident that Brazil has much larger population in 2000, nearly 35 times that of Congo. Brazil had much larger irrigated land too. But what is more important is the water usage per person that is stunningly huge in Brazil (359 m3) in comparison to Congo (8 m3).
