Overall, it is clear that while England had the highest female unemployment rate in 2013, that in 2014 came to Scotland. In addition, the unemployment proportion of women declined in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, whereas the figure for Scotland saw a converse trend.
In 2013, 6,8% of female employees in England were made redundant, followed by Scotland, with the figure being 6,1%. The third highest percentage was from Northern Ireland, which was 5,6% and in Wales, unemployed women accounted for 5,4%.
From 2013 to 2014, Scotland’s rate of female unemployment witnessed an increase by 0,6% and became the highest figure compared to the remaining nations. On the contrary, the rate of unemployed women in England dropped to 6,5% in 2014, followed by Wales, which similarly experienced a fall from 5,4% to 5%. A similar pattern can be seen in the joblessness rate for women in Northern Ireland, which decreased by 1%, reaching 4,6% in 2014.
