The chart illustrates the number of shop closing and opening in a single country between 2011 and 2018.
Overall, the number of shop closings and number of openings both saw a fluctuating trend during the period and closed shop significantly dropped.
The number of shops that closed fluctuated between 6000 and 7000 during the first four years of the period, after that it fell sharply to the lowest point, about 600, in 2015. However, this number rose significantly to approximately 5000 the next year and remained stable until the last year.
In 2011, opened shops reached approximately 8500 and it decreased raiply after one year to 4000. In 2012, opened shops increased next two years and it stood at just more than 6000 before dropping to 4000 in 2015. Eventually, it stayed at this level for two years and fell from 4000 to 3000 in 2018.
