The graph below shows the quantities of goods transported in the UK between 1974 and 2002 by four different modes of transport.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The mentioned line graph illustrates the amount of goods transported by four means of transportation namely road, water, rail and pipeline over the period from 1974 to 2002 in the United Kingdom.
Overall, as is represented by the line graph, road was the mostly used modes of transportation, while relatively small quantities of goods were transported by using pipeline in UK between 1974 and 2002.
It is evident that roads carried significantly large amount of goods, which was more than 60 million tonnes during 1974, while it rose gradually and reached nearly 100 million tonnes in 2002, on contrast pipeline was the least preferred transportation that carried less than 20 million tonnes from 1974 to 1990, but after that time the ratio slowly elevated and remained constant from 1994 to 2002.
However, during 1974 both waterways and railways had figure of 40 million tonnes, but former showed the uptrend and reached more than 60 million tonnes, on the contrary the latter showed the fluctuating nature and finally had accounted more than 40 million tonnes in 2002.
