The graph compares six different energy sources which have been consumed in the US since 1980 and projected consumption to 2030. The units are measured in Quadrillion.
Overall, fossil fuels have historically been the largest major energy source for total annual U.S energy consumption, accouning for more than 80% of total energy consumotion. Estimation shows that this trend will continue until 2030.
In 1980, consumption of petrol and oil was 35q, which was equal about 40% of total U.S. consumption. This figure decreased by 5q in 1985, before rising to 40q in 2017. Prediction estimates that oil reach 50q in 2030. The condition for coal and natural are similar to oil by initial difference. At the first of given period, coal and gas were consumed 15q and 20q respectively. After five years, both met at 17q, rising to 25q in 2017, then gas remain stable whereas coal rise by 5q in 2030.
Nuclear, solar/wind, and Hydropower started at same point, about 4q in 1980, making up only 20% of U.S consumption. Nuclear consumption rose steady and reached 7q. In contrast, Hydropower had fallen by 1q while solar has been remained in start point. Renewable source and nuclear rise but can not reach even 10q in last year.
