The report aims to provide statistics about the employment rate of people with different English language abilities in the United Kingdom in 2013.
Overall, native English speakers had the highest rate of employment in the UK and male workers were more likely to be employed than females in any of category. Of those in employment, the most common occupations were Elementary for people whose main language was not English while professional was for those who mainly used English.
At that time, over 25.7 million people (aged 16-64) in the United Kingdom were in employment. Around people who spoke English as a main language had more chance of employment (71.9%) compared to others at just over two-thirds and just under half for proficient and non-proficient English users respectively. Men seemed to have larger opportunities to work than women did during the examined period where the percentage of female employees in each category was relatively smaller than that of males.
Elementary was the most popular choice of occupation among people in 2013 which showed the rate of 38.2 per cent for non-proficient and 19.2 per cent proficient users. The professional industry was the second common vocation where around 17% of both proficient and native English speaker decided to work in.
