The graph illustrates shifts in the amount of fast food consumed in the UK from 1970 to 1990
Overall, the UK population tends to eat more and more junk food. In addition, fish and chips were the most popular product.
Moving to a more detailed analysis, in 1970, pizza was common fast food in the UK, and 300 grams were consumed per week. However, the figure for it fell dramatically to nearly 200 grams in 1990. In contrast, there was a considerable rise in fish and chips and hamburger. This time witnessed a rapid growth in hamburger, from 20 grams to 300 grams per week, surpassing pizza at the end of 1985. The quantity of fish and chips products jumped enormously from approximately 100g to 500g in 1990.
Accompanying the change in these three types of fast food was an overall increase in the amount of junk food eaten. In 1970, British consumers ate around 400g per week but later climbed to nearly 1000g in 1990.
