In recent times one of the most debated issues relates to ability to speak foreign language. Some assert that inability to understand foreign language ought to lead not only social problems but also create some practical problems.
On the one side of the argument there are people who reason that speaking a language other than person's mother tongue may lead to some worth-considering social problems. First and foremost, if an immigrant living overseas is incapable of speaking widely-used in a country, he is likely to face troubles to settle himself into the new environment. Apart from that, he may find difficulties to deal with daily simple activities. For instance, people may have problems while talking with neighbors or contacting bank or governments, who only understand local foreign language. The second point in this context is that the lack of foreign language ability may possibly result in misunderstanding of laws and instruction. There might be a high chances to violate local regulations because of their illiteracy, they cannot read and understand the instruction to follow the rules.
On the other hand, the other group believes that there are the higher chances of having practical problems related to language barriers. According to them, poor verbal and written communication in foreign language may be the main cause of high employment among immigrants. A vast majority of foreign immigrants cannot apply high-paid and white collar job since most of the jobs require language competence. Further, illiteracy and misunderstanding may lead to health problems, such as stress and depression. Many times, they feel fear, while communicating with local people due to that they might have not only health issues but also disturb their mental ability.
To conclude, to adapt new environment well, immigrants should able to communicate well in the language spoken in their localities. Lack of having less knowledge about foreign language may cause multiple troubles to any person living in that country. Therefore, it should be advisable to learn foreign language before relocate to that country.
