The line graph illustrates the trends in carbon dioxide emission habits by one person in Britain and three other European countries over a 40-year period from 1967 to 2007.The figures are given in metric tonnes.
Overall, it is clear the United Kingdom had the highest emission per person, while the Portuguese least released the gas. Furthermore, the rate of emissions by the Italian and Portuguese inhabitant has steadily increased, in contrast to the British and Swedish who experienced a decline.
In 1967, approximately eleven metric tonnes of CO2 was given off by a Britain resident, this figure was steady for the next ten years after which it saw a gradual drop to about nine metric weight unit at the end of the period. Despite this, it still emitted the maximum gas. Similarly, a Swedish inhabitant had produced around nine metric tonnes at the start of the year, this value, however, peaked after a decade in contrast to the United Kingdom to around ten metric tonnes. Following this, it saw a drop to seven metric tonnes in 1987 and a further drop to finish at over five in 2007.
On the contrary, the emitting rates of the other two countries significantly climbed during the given period. The Portuguese emission was around one metric tonnes in 1967, but grew strikingly to five, ending at the same figure with Sweden. Lastly, Italy started with just over four metric tonnes emissions per person and increased dramatically to almost double three decades later after which it remained stayed the same till the concluding year.
