Dear Sir,
I have recently come across the proposal by the Hyderabad Airport Development Authority (HADA) for the new International Airport at Himayatsagar in a public exhibition held at Parade Grounds a week ago. I am writing this to inform you about the hazards of construction at the location.
Osmansagar lake which has been built by the Nizam’s 100 years ago as part of the city’s Storm water management system lies right next to the outer periphery of the proposed Airport design. A majority of the site area falls in the overflow zone of the lake. When inquired further about the lake’s future, I understood from the officials at the exhibition the lake is being demolished to make way for construction since it is not being used as Storm water drain anymore. However, since the lake is located adjacent to a wildlife sanctuary, it has significantly improved the eco system of the region and hence attracts thousands of migratory birds each year. Building an Airport in the region would completely destroy the flourishing wildlife.
As a part of thesis during my Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, I have done intense research for the ideal location for an International Airport for the city. Consequently, I have reached a conclusion regarding the ideal location for an airport for the city which is Samshabad. It is mostly barren land and as it falls on the National Highway connecting Hyderabad to Bengaluru, it is an ideal location for an Airport. I would give me immense joy to share my research regarding the same, if needed.
Looking forward for a positive reply.
Yours Sincerely,
Chan
