Physical activity plays an important role in the physical and psychological development of children during their initial years of life. However, with the increasing urbanization and modernisation, indoor activities have totally surpassed outdoor games and thus making children couch potatoes. In my opinion, this leads to negative development because it affects their mental and physical growth.
There are multifarious reasons which describe as to why urbanization has a detrimental effect on juveniles. Urban areas have eliminated the public playgrounds which have been converted into malls, shopping centres and housing complexes leaving no space for children to play outdoor games. Furthermore, this confines children to play in the streets, that creates chaos and adversely can be fatal for their lives. Increase in crime rate and abductions has also affected the decision of the parents to keep their children indoors. In fact, two siblings are missing since last week in Delhi while they were playing outside their house. Incidents like these scare the wits out of the parents and force them to confine their children to play indoors.
On the contrary, playing indoor/computer games is not in the best interest of the children. Physical interaction with the surroundings while running, playing cricket or football keeps the body clock balanced, which is affected while staying indoors. This usually makes them Nocturnal and ruins their overall growth, eventually, making them feel sick. Playing computer games might induce some quick reflexes, however, it promotes aggressive behaviour experiencing turmoil and changes their outlook towards life.
To sum it all up, it is rightly said that health is wealth and there's no substitute for physical activity. Not only it fosters fit and healthy lifestyle but also makes a person socially connected, valuing relationships.
