Essay topics:

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

It is more important for students to understand ideas and concepts than it is for them to learn facts.

Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

A controversial issue relating to whether students should learn concepts and ideas rather than facts, has been brought to the attention of the teachers, who want to make teaching more effective. Relevant authorities believe that learning facts is a crucial part of knowing something. However, in my opinion, it will be better for students to learn concepts throughout their academic career.

First of all, learning new concepts and ideas will help students to build their knowledge, and sustain this information for a long time. To put it in another way, young learners would be able to memorize things based on the logic's line. Therefore, this knowledge will stay with them throughout their entire life. For example, two decades ago, when I was in university, I was that kind of student who studied by following the flow of logic. Even though in some subjects such as History, where dates played an important part on learning and memorizing the information. The strategy that I used was based on the common sense and the logic of things. As a result of this learning technique, I remember things and could make the connection between events that occurred in different times. According to this experience, students will be able to learn and memorize the learning material for a long period of time.

Furthermore, studying ideas and concepts will provide young people with a broad education, which will help them to improve different valuable and useful skills in the foreseeable future. For instance, to be more specific, a recent Pew poll found nearly 80 percent of students, who studied concepts had better comprehensive skills and an expended horizon in knowledge. On the contrary, the counterparts, who studied only facts, had a narrow view on what they had learnt. Overall, this evidence tells us that students could gain valuable skills if they focus on learning ideas.

In conclusion, students should learn ideas and concepts. This is because they will be able to memorize the information that they learned for a long time. And because, they are going to gain and expend their knowledge by improving valuable skills that will help them in the future,

Better to have 5 paragraphs with 3 arguments. And try always support/against one side but compare two sides, like this:

para 1: introduction
para 2: reason 1. address both of the views presented for reason 1
para 3: reason 2. address both of the views presented for reason 2
para 4: reason 3. address both of the views presented for reason 3
para 5: conclusion.

So how to find out those reasons. There is a formula:

reasons == advantages or

reasons == disadvantages

for example, we can always apply 'save time', 'save/make money', 'find a job', 'make friends', 'get more information' as reasons to all essay/speaking topics.

or we can apply 'waste time', 'waste money', 'no job', 'make bad friends', 'get bad information' as reasons to all essay/speaking topics.
