Books, without a shadow of a doubt, are the best way to learn something new. They have the ability to learn about and share extensive knowledge on a wide range of academic disciplines. While some may say that kids may only get valuable knowledge from books, others may argue that films can be just as informative. I tend to agree with the latter viewpoint.
To begin, sometimes watching a movie is more interesting than reading a book. Many people find it difficult to sit still for long periods of time and read, which can make reading feel tedious at times. Movies, on the other hand, are significantly more engaging since they are visual and frequently have action and suspense, which may keep audiences engaged throughout. Therefore, students who need to memorize information for tests or papers may benefit from watching movies instead of reading the material. A pupil, for instance, is more likely to retain information from a documentary about the Civil Rights Movement than from a history textbook. He or she will be able to visualize the Great March on Washington, hear Martin Luther King's address, and understand the tremendous energy that people felt at the time. The documentary succeeds where books fail by making history vivid through the use of images and music.
Films may be more appealing and spectacular than other media, and they can also cover a great deal of ground in a very short length of time. Especially beneficial for students with limited time who are attempting to learn about a certain topic, a typical feature-length film may present a tale from numerous angles that would take hundreds of pages to explain in a book. Use the classic novel "To Kill a Mockingbird" as an illustration. Scout, a small girl, is the narrator of the novel. She is present during the trial of a black guy accused of raping a white lady. The novel gives a lot of background about the town and its inhabitants, but it is just from Scout's point of view. The movie version of the novel provides a more comprehensive look at the community and its people. The tale is told through the perspectives of a number of individuals, including Scout's father, Atticus Finch. This allows us to observe what happens from a variety of angles and to better understand the characters and what drives them. Not until the film adaptation of the book was released could the general public have gained so much insight.
