"Listen to it then memorize for one week, read it to memorize for one month, look at it to memorize for one year but if you one to understand it for your whole life, do it yourself.” This proverb completely illustrates the importance of actively participating in learning process at classes. In my opinion classes with open discussions are better than those with a lot of lectures.
First of all, when a teacher gives the opportunity of sharing ideas to students, they will try to increase their knowledge and discuss about the topic. For example, at university, I had an organic chemistry course which its professor allowed us to analyze his solutions for different questions. Once he made a mistake and I did not accept it, so we argued about two hours and at last he understood I was right. He announced that the correct answer is different. Then he asserted that it is really good to listen to others’ opinion without bias to amend our errors. Therefore, not only did I memorize that specific question well, but also other pupils tried to propound their beliefs more.
Furthermore, we need to learn how to address later when we enter in the society or work environment. For instance, when I started to work, we had weekly meeting about problems and new decisions that we had to bring up them. I was familiar with this method and could respect others’ view but one of my coworker could not accept opposite comments. Thus, it is crucial to train students how to say their opinions without fighting together.
Admittedly, we need some lectures in classroom by professor, especially if we are not familiar properly with the topic. However, after two or three sessions, we should study more and be independent to find some materials then ask our questions or challenge the concept of books. It helps us learn the research methods and try our best to solve our problems ourselves.
To wrap up, free discussions have a lot of benefits for learning process because make students independent and knowledgeable instead of mentor orientated which is a huge achievement.
