Both the reading passage and lecturer is talking about theories relating to extinction of dinosaurs. The passage states three important theories that clarifies causes of their extinction. However, the lecturer tries to refutes them all by providing well explained proofs.
First, the passage states asteroids were responsible for their extinction. It explains how availability of Iridium in Earth's surface is relatable to their extinction. It is theorized that, as Iridium is less available in earth and highly available in meteorites, there was meteor shower during the age of dinosaur. Which eventually, extinctic them. On the contrary, the lecturer claims that these Iridium were available on earth's crust because of volcanic ashes. These ashes transferred Iridium from lower earth crust. So, the asteroid theory is not convenient.
Second, the passage explains how low temperature and extreme climatic condition during ice age might have aided in extinction of dinosaurs. It states that becuse of poor thermoregulatory system of dinosaur their habitat and daily activities were influence which aided in their extinctin. But, the lectures debukes it by saying there was no any fossil evidience available to support this. Instead, fossilized evidiences proved that the climate during that period was tropical. The seal level was higher at that period and also most foosils dated to that period were of tropical plants which supports the point of the lecturer.
Finally, the passage states that evolution of dinosaur into bird caused their extinction. The passage proves it by stating how compareable were their body structures, complexicity and vita organs. But, the lecturer argues it by stating their body size were not compareable to support evolution. In addition, their mobility were also different. Dinosours had few range for their movement but, since birds could fly they were able move long distance and suvive harsh condition in an area by moving to other. This uncompromisingly proves that dinosurs didn't evolve into birds.
