The listening and reading are about the cons and pros of the device which use to prevent a grave problem like desertification. According to the author there are some disagreements regarding the use of this device but the lecturer doesn't agree with that points presented by the author.

Firstly, the author posits that with a cost of 25 US dollars the process of desertification become more expensive as many countries can't effort the money for this. But the lecturer oppose this point by mentioning the cost, a one time cost as all the devices can be reuse 20 times which can make the cost a reasonable cost as millions of tree growing against dryness.

Additionally, the author notes that locals, living in area involving desertification already fighting with their food issues so it's hard for them to maintain the devices. The professor rebuts this arguments by claiming that locals can use devices for their vegetables also which can resolve the food issues as well as desertification. Also, the tress with large branches can be used as firewood.

Finally, the author mention that due to the device limits of conserving water makes only a small tree to reliable to climate. Outgrown tress have to deal with their own. But the professor disagree with this by saying that if a young tree's roots are successful in searching of water's resources they can easily fight with the unforgiving environmental conditions.
