edmontosaur and the hypothesis of their migration
The article states that edmontosaur, a kind of North Slope dinosaurs, was able to migrate south in order to survive and reach hospitable regions. The author of the reading provides three reasons for support for the claims. However, the professor explains that the claims are not convincing and refutes the author's reasons.
First, the reading claims that edmontosaurs' diet is the obvious reason for the migration idea. However, the professor refutes this point by saying that edmontosaurs the migration was not necessary for them. She mentions that the winter at the time was warmer than today and therefore the plants had a proper condition to grow which caused the availability of nutrients food in the winter.
Second, the author of the reading posits that edmontosaur fossils found in the same site which proves that edmontosaur lived in the herd. This idea is challenged by the professor. She gives an example of Roosevelt elks to prove that group living might have various types of reasons. So edmontosaurus may live in herbs in order to seek for extra protection.
Third, the author states that edmontosaur have some physical properties which make them able to travel long distances. The professor, on the other hand, opposes this by saying that most edmontosaur was not able to travel long distances. She states that most adults were capable to do such migration and most youngster one had trouble. The professor puts forth the reason that edmontosaur could not leave their youngsters because younger edmontosaur was not able to survive without their parents.
