“Globalization” refers to the growing economic and cultural interconnectedness between different regions of the world. Because modern transportation and electronic communication have made commercial relationships between distant people easier than eve

The reading passage talks about globalization and its benefits to nations by explaining about cheaper production, healthy economical competitions and mutual reliance between countries. However, the lecturer casts doubt about these advantages by providing reasons how global market negatively affects nations and how cheaper productions has effects on a country.

To begin with, the reading passage says that the competition, created by world trade, among countries keeps the products' quality high and costs in affordable state. The author goes on that the competition forces the nations to produce high quality goods to keep the global business stable, at the same time that controls the cost inflation. However, the lecturer posts that there is a danger hidden in global market and delves deeper to explain this with following example. To clarify the effect of global market's recession, he uses the incident of 2008 recession that happened in US, which affected many European countries and other nations around the world.

In addition, the passage supports that global economy encourages the developing nations, where the production cost is cheaper, and fosters those nations' economy growth. The authors backs his point with the example of present Southeast Asia's present stable economy status by highlighting it's citizens better lifestyle. The lecturer disagrees with this point and explains that one nation's cheaper labour cost affects another nation's job market. He gives example of the workers laid off scenario that happened in US because of the TV manufacturing shift to Mexico where the labour cost is very low.

Finally, the lecturer goes on saying his suspicion of author's statement about environmental damage control over globalization. The lecturer tells that there is no significant environmental damage control recorded because of the global economy. Instead, he says that globalization causes more damage to the environment and cheaper production is gained by damaging environments in many cases. In summary, the lecturer strongly disagrees with the author's claims by explaining the above reasons.
