The passage here speaks highly about the benefits of professors who appear on TV to explain current events occuring in their field. But the lecturer in her speech thinks its more disadvantage then advantage.
The article explains that when professors from university appear on TV they become popular as thousands of people watch TV, which is easier than getting noted through publishing paper. But the lecturer refutes saying that it would be considered as bad sign by the fellow professors, they might think that he is not serious and boycott in meetings.
Another way by which the professors talk on TV may benefit is that, it will publicize his university positively which will bring more donation and good applicant in the future. The professor refutes this statement by explaining that the professor wastes his time being on air, in the same time he could teach student or work on his research.
The statement by the passage on public gaining knowledge by this is also disagreed by the professor she says that any person who has done a good amount of research can speak the same. This is because the TV host would not ask complex question as they focus on academic title and too depth would be difficult to be understood by common man.
