Rembrandt the Dutch painter
The reading discusses one of the famous paintings of Rembrandt the Dutch painter from the 17th century. the painting in question is “Portrait of an elderly woman in a white bonnet”
The lecturer agrees with what’s mentioned in the reading then she gives further explanation for the doubts about whether the painting belonged to Rembrandt the famous painter
First, she mentioned research has been done on the pigments on the fur collar by x-ray and it was proved that fur collar was added 100 years after the original painting was done. So, the claim about inconsistency between the bonnet and the collar is not valid.
Moreover, the light and shadow of the original painting showed clearly when the fur collar was removed, it was just a simple collar of light color so it’s right the face isn’t shadowed because the original color is light not dark. consequently that further confirm his master piecing skills with the light and shadow .
Lastly but not least, the painter already had another famous painting that was made of pieces of wood glued together. However, concerning this painting in specific, adding the fur collar required whoever did this to add more pieces of wood.
To put it in a nutshell, the lecture was able to prove that that the painting belongs to Rembrandt the Dutch painter.
