TOEFL TPO 34- Integrated Writing Task
The passage discusses a marin animall. Also, the texy provides three reasons for explaining the extinction of this animal. In contrast, the lecture rejects all the text's reasons by stating that there must be other explaination to this phenomenon.
First, the reading claims that overhunting of these creatures is one possibility for the extinction of sea cows. However, the passage rejects this reason by describing that sea cows were giant animals and the overhunting idea is meanless because there is no need to hunt all these massive animals.
Second, the reading suggests the reason for declining sea cow population is ecosystems disturbance. While the teacher refutes this idea by saying that if the catastrophic ecosystem was a reason for this situation they would see extinction of other marine animals, but in reality there is no sign of other animal's extinction. So, the text's idea is wrong.
Third, the passage refers to fur traders and considered them guilty. However, the talk rebuts this idea and states that the decrease in the population of these animals begin before the traders arriving. As you can see, the text's reason is not convincing.
