Thousands of animals currently reside in zoos around the world. Recently, there has been much debate about the value of zoos in today's world. Careful consideration of the facts reveals that zoos are unethical and should be closed.
First, defenders of zoos say that they are an important way of saving animals from extinction. However, in actuality, zoos have had very little success in protecting animals. One reason for this is because many animals do not thrive in zoos. Breeding in captivity is often .difficult to encourage. Endangered animals fare far better with protection programs that allow them to stay in the wild.
Additionally, zoos do not adequately provide animals with living spaces that are like their natural habitats. As a result, animals are not able to behave as they normally would. For example, a lion in a small cage is not able to run around, much less hunt. In the end, the animals end up depressed or with behavioral problems. This would not occur, of course, if they were not kept in zoos in the first place.
Finally, zoos simply are not the best way to study animals. There are a number of well-researched books available. Alternately, wildlife biologists stand to gain much more knowledge about animals by observing them in the wild. That way, they see how animals interact with other creatures without human interference.
The lecturer posits that zoos are beneficial for animals and scieentists too. Then, he opposes the writer's opinion which condemn zoos in several ways.
First, the professor avers that zoos are incrediable tools to protect endangered animals. He elaborates on this topic by explaining that in 1997 in a zoo in California, the zoo saved Cando species through a very successful captive breeding program. They reproduce cando and other animal and release them into wild habitat. The zoo did not have problems to deal with this program. In another attempt, they increased the population of a bird to 330 ones by this captive program. He insists that with out this captive breeding program, cando would extinct. This explanation clearly repudiates the idea of the author which zoos have a low rate of success in helping endangered animals.
Second, the speaker points out that modern zoos run based on teh natural habitat philosophy, based on that, animal live in an environment cimilar to their natural home. He mentions a zoo in Norht Carolina in which animals live in a very spacious habitat comfortably. The animal care givers in zoo aid animals to live in a safer invirionment. Consequently, the professor rebuts the writer's idea that animals in zoos suffer from a natrual life through which they end up having a depressed life.
Third, the lecturer states that zoos provide reserchers and people with the best way to observe and study live animals in an accessible way. No books can compenste a live animal observation, the professor says. For example, no body have a chance to keep a silver-back gorila in their house, instead in zoos researchers have the goldren opportunity to watch them. He belives that live animals observings is a very intersting and unique way of animal study which you cannot find in any book. With this justification, he repudiates the author's idea that there are myriad book about zoology which we don't need to keep animals in zoos.
