The reading passage and the lecture both discuss the speaking ability of ancient species of human called Neanderthals. While the reading cites that some anthropologists believe the primitives had been able to speak, the lecturer provides reasons that this theory is counterintuitive.
According to the reading, scientists found out the Neanderthals had large brains with higher cranial capacity in which abled them to speak. The lecturer, meanwhile, says that it is a true fact that they had larger brains than us but the size of the brain is not a reasonable represent to proof this theory. Because, what is important is the brain complexity which plays an initial role in human's speaking.
Another key points the author makes is that they discovered the hyoid bone, an evidence that shows Neanderthals were able to move their tongue in different ways in order to talk. In contrast, the lecturer asserts the bone does not guarantee they would have been to speak. In order to proof her idea, she ratiocinates by inferring to monkeys which have the same bone but not able to speak.
Finally, although the reading declares the anthropologists found different muscles in Neanderthal's stomachs that their duty was not only helping them to create sound but also helping them to breath better, the professor states that these muscles were essential for primitives breathing only. An ability to make them resist in the severe climate and help them climb mountains easily.
