TOEFL T P O 22 - Integrated Writing Task

In this set of materials, the reading and the listening are both discussing ethanol wherein the reading states that ethanol should replace fossil fuel gas and it provides three arguments of support. However, the professor notes that there are still issues with ethanol. More than that he challengers each of the author's points.
First, the writer of the reading claims that gasoline uses more energy than ethanol. Therefore, people who use ethanol get better gas mileage. The lecturer refutes this point by explaining that the cost of the ethanol is not cheap due to the fact that the cost of transform, convert and store the ethanol. Hence, the cost is rising not only for the government but also for customers.
Secondly, the reading states that using ethanol helps American's economy. However, the professor points out that using this kind of fuel in skyrocket or as the main fuel is going to raise the price of corns. Furthermore, the professor says that high corn's price is affecting people and the economy.
Finally, the author of the reading says that ethanol is environmentally friendly. The speaker of the lecture opposes this point by mentioning that both gasoline and ethanol release the co2.
In conclusion, the three points that made in the lecture contrast with the reading. The first, second and third points in the lecture demonstrate that using ethanol instead of gasoline is in doubt. Additionally, both the writer and lecturer hold conflicting views about ethanol.
