TOEFL TPO 40 - Integrated Writing Task
In this set materials, the reading passage state that many scientists believe that people cannot live on the Venus surface. On the other hand, the listening section brings into question the reading points by providing different reasons (and examples).
First of all, the reading passage indicates that the atmospheric pressure on the Venus surface is greater than the earth surface; therefore, a human cannot live on the Venus surface. In contrast, the lecturer opposes this view by mentioning that based on physical fact, at above the surface atmospheric pressure is lower than the surface. Hence, the human can build station above the Venus surface(about 40km upper than surface). In this situation, the Venus pressure is equal the earth pressure.
Second, the reading argues that the surface of Venus does not have water and oxygen; hence, a human must import them to the Venus; conversely, what the lecturer believes is different. He points out that the Venus surface contains some component such as CO2 and sulfuric. A human can produce water and oxygen from CO2 and sulfur by a chemical process. Thus, they do not need transfer water and O2 to the venue.
Finally, according to the reading, the Venus surface has a cloud that prevents sunlight. However, the speaker claims that clouds above that the Venus are not very dense, and they reflect sunlight to the surface. Also, people can use this energy to produce electricity.
