TOEFL TPO 47 - Integrated Writing Task
In this set materials, the reading passage state that Pterosaurs incapable power of flight. On the other hand, the listening section brings into question the reading point by providing different reasons (and examples).
First of all, the reading passage indicates that Pterosaurs had a slow metabolism, for this animal was cold_blooded; in contrast, the lecturer opposes this view by mentioning that Pterosaurs' fossils have shown that this animal had hair or feathers covering that used for keeping body temperature in the cold place. Also, only warm-blooded animals had to regulate body temperature; therefore, the pterosaurs were warm-blooded animals that have a high metabolism and are able to produce a lot of energy for flying.
Secondly, the reading argues that this animal was too heavy for flying; conversely, what the lecturer believes is different. She points that this animal is unusually light because their bones were hollow as well as being firm and solid. Thus, pterosaurs' weight might be low enough to make them able to powered flight.
Finally, according to the reading, the Pterosaurs have a problem for taking off when they want to fly because they did not have strong back legs muscles to launch themselves into the air. However, the speaker believes that the characters of birds and Pterosaurs are different. The birds only use 2 feet for jumping; hence, they use 2 feet for taking off. But, the Pterosaurs have 4 legs that use for jumping and walking; thus, the Pterosaurs use 4 foot for taking off not only use 2 back legs.
