TPO-03 - Integrated Writing Task Rembrandt is the most famous of the seventeenth-century Dutch painters. However, there are doubts whether some paintings attributed to Rembrandt were actually painted by him. One such painting is known as attributed to Rem

The article and lecture argue on portrait of woman if it belongs to Rembrandt. The article states that painting could not be the work of Rembrandt. In supporting this claim it gives three reasons. However the professor explains that painting indeed is a work of Rembrandt and refutes each of the author's openions.

First, article states that women in the portrait is wearing a cap which is of low price, but the jacket she is wearing has a affluent fur collar that servents cannot afford. Article fiurther states that Rembrandt would not have made such a mistake. But, professor refutes this reason and states that x-ray and pigment analysis shows that fur collar was painted on the top of original painting 100 years after painting was made. He further explains that someone might have done this to make the painting look like formal portrait of an aristocratic woman.

Second, article states that face in the painting looks radiant from light reflected onto it from below fur collar. But fur collar is dark which would probably absorb the light. However professor refutes this fact by saying that fur collar is repainted and original painting had simple light color which would radiate light on face. Thus original painting had realistic connection between color and face.

Finally, the article states that painting was made on several sheets of would glued together which is very unlikely of Rembrandt's work. But, professor refutes this reason by saying that extra pieces of wood has been added after fur collar was added to make it look more attractive. Also, single piece of wood of this work resembles wood from his other painting self portrait with hat.

Thus lecture clearly refutes all the reasons given in article.
