The reading passage discusses an interesting topic about how young people are less interesting in reading literature, novels, plays and poems and provides extensive reasons for support. However, the lecture casts doubts on the claim made by the author of the reading passage. She thinks that young people are still interesting and what really changes is the way young people approach to books.
Firs of all, the reading passage argues that literature is the only way to encourage young's imagination and intellectual stimulation. On the other hand, the lecture refute this concept by explaining that novels are not the only way to stimulate imagination. Moreover, not always literature books are synonym of good writing.
Secondly, the reading passage states that the lack of literature reading contributes to lowered the level of culture in general. On the contrary, the lecture explains how culture changes in their way to consume art and literature. To illustrate this idea, the lecture points out other cultural manifestation like music and movies that are part of culture in a very positive way.
Finally, the lecture agrees in some point with the reading passage in the fact that novels and having less financial support for their production, but disagree with the reading passage in the cause of it. On opposite to the reading, the lecturer blame the low quality of the authors than the readers for this issue.
In summary, for all the reason exposes above, the reading passage fail to support the theory that young people are reading less, today. Thus, the lecture effectively refutes every point stated by the reading passage.
