The reading passage makes three suggestions to cease to spread of the cane toad in Australia which is one of the harmful insects including to build the national fence, collect volunteers to destroy cane toad and develop a disease or virus. However, the lecturer cast doubts each idea of the author.
First and foremost, the article suggests that the national fence will block the move of toads to the parts that are toadless areas of Australia. On the other hand, the professor rejected that point by saying that the young toads live in marine, so, even though where the fence is, they could not block the cane to spread. According to him, it is not an effective way.
Secondly, the passage indicates that volunteers could destroy the young canes because they live in water and also easy to catch. Also, the government can organize the campaign to collect them. In contrast, the lecturer argued that untrained people could hunt the national frog instead of canes. He also argued that people may damage the economic system by declining the native frog population.
Finally, the reading claims that people can control the population of cane toad by developing a virus or diseases between the cane toads. Nonetheless, the lecturer made a counterclaim to the idea by explaining that the virus can spread to America by toads which may harmful for the native American cane toads. He also concluded that it may have terrible consequences for the population of canes all over the world.
