The reading passage discuss an interesting topic about the decline of bird population, in the United States, and provides extensive information with three reasons for support. However, the lecture casts doubt on this claim. According to her, the birds population are improving, and even though, the lecture agrees in some of the statements, she opposes to every reason of the reading passage.
First of all, the reading passage sustains that bird's natural habitats are disappearing because the increment of urban areas. On the contrary, the lecture arguments that urban areas, far from reduce bird's habitats, provides new ones. Moreover, according to the lecture, species like pigeons, ceagals, and even falcons, and halks hunting for mouses and small animals, can be seen in every town and city.
Secondly, the reading passage states that the expand of agriculture plays a negative effect on the bird's population. On the other hand, the lecture, again, refutes this claim. By this token, she explains that less land is used for agriculture as consequence of a more effective type of crops that provide more food per unit of land.
Finally, the reading passage blames the increment of the use of chemical pesticides to a future decline of bird's population. This idea is challenged by the lecture based on the awareness of the public about the disavantages of the use of chemical pesticides. Additionally, the lecture mentions the introduction of a stronger type of crops, more pest resistant. Consequently, it will not require so much chemical as use to. Thus, the lecture once again refutes the reading passage's point.
