Reading and lecture talks about the decline in birds population due to
increase in urbanization. Article argues that human assassination to the natural
land might jeopardize life of the birds species, while lecture states that reasons for that
mentioned in the passage are not logical. Lecture throws light on the her opinion in the
following essay:
Firstly, reading posits that maximum portion of land is covered to satisfy human needs such
as homes, factories and other institutions. Therefore, there is not adequate land available
to protect species of birds. In contrast, lecture thinks urban growth promotes development of the most bird species such as pigeon, hawks and sea gals via larger habitat. As a result, there might be actual increase in the number of birds rather than
decrease.
Secondly, article claims that many wilderness areas are converted in to fertile land for agriculture. Thus,
many birds species do not possess nests to survive. Lecture challenges this statement made in the lecture. She thinks that advancement of technology in agricultural field enable farmers can grow efficient and large quantities of crops in small area of land. In addition, she witnesses that every year amount of land under agriculture is plummeting.
Thirdly, article asserts that pesticides used to eradicate pests in that process harmful insects mixes with water. Thus, large population of birds can die by consuming that water and thereby jeopardizing their growth. However, professor thinks that nowadays less toxic pesticides are invented due to continues research. This can brought two changes;first it crops produced will be genetically pesticide resistant and these crops do not affect birds numbers. As a consequence, professor successfully cast doubt against points made in reading.
