The lecture and the reading passage both discuss because of the cold temperature in many parts of the world between 1350 until 1900CE, the little ice age was appeared. On the one hand the reading clearly state that there were several causes have been proposed that assumed the causes of this change. On the other hand, the lecture refutes that by saying the arguments were questionable and implausible that was outdated and did not have any real contribution.
First of all, the reading state that the first cause beyond forming the ice age was melting glaciers that led to increase the cold ocean water that had a direct effect to the Earth's climate. However, the Gulf stream water had an impact on unexpected water like South Africa. So, they cannot take this point.
In addition, the reading makes arguments is that the volcanic eruption cause dark clouds of dust, and that led to block the sunlight to reach the Earth's surface. In other words that decrease the global temperature and formed the Little Ice Age. Conversely, the lecture counter this point by saying that eruption of volcanic will produce dust but this dust did not report by the people on that time. And the volcanic eruption was not strong enough to release large amount of dust that responsible of decreasing the global temperature.
Lastly, the reading state that the third cause is due to decrease number of people, the forest trees started growing more and led to consumed large amount of carbon dioxide, the earth became cooler. The lecture counter this claims by pointing out that number of trees was not the main contribution to cool the Earth.
