TPO 28
The reading and the listening materials have a debate on reaching Robert E. Peary to the North Pole. The writer puts forward 3 main hypotheses, which are refuted by following speaker.
Firstly, the writer suggests that Natural Geographic Society's committee confirmed Peary's success, while the speaker views this issue from an opposite angle. According to her this group were Peary's friends and did not study his records carefully. As a result, this claim are not valuable.
The second preposition have offered by the writer is that Tom Avery made the same expedition in less than 37 days, which proofs Peary's work. However, the speaker casts doubt on this point by saying that their conditions were not similar such as some tools and food which airplane transported in this exploration for Avery; Then, Avery could not do this mission in less than 37 days with that items. In Practical, it was not possible such speed with those kind of tools.
Lastly, the writer suggests that the photographs taken by Peary's camera support his expedition. On the contrary, the speaker holds an opposite view. The professor explains that these photos are for 100 years ago, and in that time, the quality of Peary's camera was not so high that we can rely on it for determining the shadows long. Indeed, the shadows are blur in many edges.
