TPO 28 Integrated task
Both the reading and lecture are about Robert E. Peary journey to North Pole. the author of the reading feels that there are three reliable support for the truth of this Peary's claim. on the other hand, the professor argues that there are not solid evidences that support Peary's claim.
First of all, the reading states that investigation performed by the National Geographic Society committee thorough Peary's records and apparatus revealed that the Peary reached the North Pole. this specific argument is challenged by the lecturer. he claims that the committee members who conducted the investigation were Peary's close friends and the result looks biased, and it is skeptical that Peary reached to North pole.
Secondly, the reading suggests that a recent expedition made by British explorer named Tom Avery support that Peary reached the North Pole in 37 days.
the lecture, however, rebuts this by mentioning that the recent speedy expedition is completely different from Peary's expedition. he additionally says that Avery's expedition is less weighted than Peary's one, and food was dropped by the helicopter.
Finally, the reading posits that there are photographs taken by Peary which support his claim to have reached the North Pole. in the contrary, the lecture's position is that the pictures taken by Peary are not accurate and precise. the camera he used was primitive which produced fuzzy and faded pictures, and also the exact location of sun is also not accurate.
In the conclusion, the reading asserts that there are three strong evidence that indicate Robert E. Peary reached North Pole in 1909. on the other hand, the professor argues that these evidence asserted by the passage are not reliable and solid which do not show that Peary has reached the North Pole in 1909.
