The reading passage states three proofs for Peary had reached the North Pole, whereas the professor points out that the evidence is not solid and not convincing.
Firstly, the author insists that the investigation of authoritative committee confirmed his claim. The professor, however, argues that the investigation is indeed authentic but not objective, because there is Peary's friend who funded Peary's trip in the National Geographic Society. What is more the investigation only lasted two days and on the basis of Peary' words, the committee did not scrutinize his records. Therefore, the investigation is not convincing.
Secondly, the author says that citizens used to doubt that Peary could not reach the North Pole in only 37 days, but recently a British explorer spent even less than 37 days to reach the North Pole with the exact same equipment as Peary did. In contrast, the speaker reckons that they got the same site through varied ways for Avery brought much less food with him and his food was carried there by airplane. In this way, the explorer's route is too different to prove the assertion of Peary.
Lastly, the reading states that the exact position of Sun in Peary's photographs suggests that he had been there once. On the contrary, the lecture deems that scientists locate a site by measuring the shadow of Sun precisely and without the shadow they cannot predict the location. Nevertheless, the photographs were taken so long that they became blurred and faded, as a result, we presumably cannot calculate the position of Sun accurately.
