The main idea of both the passage and the lecture is about Sinosauropteryx was a feathered dinosaur. In this line of thought, the reading states that Sinosauropteryx don’t preserve in the volcanic ash and are fibered and not feathered, and there is no evidence about their colorful skin. The lecturer, on the other hand, casts doubt on all of the three episodes of arguments mentioned in the passage, believing that none of these strategies are practical and lead to the real world. In the rest of the passage, a comparison between them is provided.
First of all, the reading and the listening materials talk about Sinosauropteryx don’t preserve in the volcanic ash. The author explains that the critics point out that the fine lines may not even represent functional structures of a living dinosaur, but rather structures that were formed after the animal’s death. After the animal died and was buried in volcanic ash, its skin may have decomposed into fibers. Thus, the author contends that the skin fibers then became preserved as lines in the fossil; the lines were misinterpreted as evidence of feathers. On the contrary, the lecturer believes that resulted for the belief of critics about destroying fossils in the volcanic ash is the critics don’t see such these fossils which preserve in this harsh conditions. She thinks that these fossils are well-preserved. This directly contradicts what the passage indicates.
Second, both the text and the talk discuss Sinosauropteryx are fibered and not feathered. The author points out that even if the fine lines are remains of real structures of a Sinosauropteryx, scientists cannot tell with certainty what part of the dinosaur’s anatomy the structures were. Many dinosaurs had frills, ornamental fan-shaped structures growing out of some parts of their bodies. Therefore, the author elaborates that some of the critics argue that the lines surrounding the skeleton are much more likely to be fossilized remains of frills than remains of feathers. However, the lecturer notes that there is a chemical difference between x and y. x has protein baby crocks, but y has not the same chemical feature. Also, the beliefs that the scientists found the Sinosauropteryx has x characteristics. This was another place where experience contradicted the theory.
Eventually, there is no evidence about their colorful skin which is discussed by both the passage and the lecture. The author mentions that the fact that the usual functions of feathers are to help animals fly or regulate their internal temperature. However, the structures represented by the lines in the Sinosauropteryx fossil were mostly located along the backbone and the tail of the animal. Hence, the author suggests that this would have made the structures quite useless for flight and of very limited use in thermoregulation. This suggests that the lines do not represent feathers. The lecturer rebuts this argument. The lecturer states that some animals use from their characteristics in their life. She provides one example about pick coke birds. This spacious use the colorful feature to show own self. According to the data which gathered until now Sinosauropteryx has orange and white color for showing themselves. This opinion directly contradicts the passage presented and making it infeasible.
Sum up, although the passage provides some reasons to Sinosauropteryx was a feathered dinosaur, the lecture opposes about the effectiveness and possibility of those reasons.
