The passage and lecture are arguing over the source of the bizzare sounds. The author lists out some possible theories to demonstrate a proper source. On the contrary, the lecturer refuses all of these reasons.
Firstly, the passage author mentions that the ocra whales might make this stagne noise, during courtship. In contrast, the lecturer rufuese this theory and she points out that, altough ocra whale live in those ereas, they live in surface of the water not deep part of the water where the submarin moved. Moreover, the submarine sonar was capable to detect whales easily. Therefore, it is impossible that the Ocra whales made such noises.
Secondly, the author states the giant suids as the source of the strange noise. The lecturer, however, chalenges this theory and she mentions that giant squids are living today, while the noise was made only for decades. In other words, the stange noises just were reported for two decades. Hence, the gian squids did not make these bizarre noises.
Finally, based on the passage, some foreign submarine might made those exotic noises. Nevertheless, the lecture rebuts this arguement and she asserts that the source of the noise moved fast and change its directions quickly, while it is impossible to build such a submarine even with today's technology. As a result, these noises were made by another source rather than mankind objects like military submarines.
In a nutshell, the passage suggest three theories for explaning the source of the strange noises, while the lecture challenge these theories,
