In this set of materials, the author of the reading passage claims that there are three hypotheses of the strange sounds, called "quackers", detected by Russian submarines sailors from 1960s to 1980s. However, the professor thinks that the author's theories contain some defects.
First of all, the author states that the bizarre noise may be contributed to the male and female ocra whales. The sound of the ocra whale and the sound of the submarines had detected are identical. On the contrary, the professor disagrees. She explains that, in general, the whale inhabit near the surface ocean, while the submarines detected the sound in depth of an ocean. Therefore, it is highly unlikely the quackers sound is related to the whales.
In addition, the author discusses that according to the habitation of the giant squids is in the deep ocean, it is convincing that the noise was made by squids. However, the professor disputes the author's idea by saying that the sound was found in the 1960s at first and vanish in 1980, for twenty decades only, yet, the giant squids still survive in nowadays. If the squids still alive nowadays, the sound wouldn't disappear.
Finally, the author raises the point that the Russian sailors may be picked up the sounds from other country's submarines. On the other hand, the professor asserts that the sounds the sailors found changed direction rapidly. In fact, the submarines can't change the direction that fast. Furthermore, the submarine's engine sound wouldn't be so silent.
