The reading states that the sound quackers have some sources and provides three sources of these strange sounds. The professor, however, explains that the sound is very strange phnomenon and have some problems with the theories and refutes each the auhore's reasons.
First, the reading claims that the strange noises were the calls of male and female ocra whales during a courtship ritual. The professor refutes this point by saying that it is highly unlikely. She says that ocral whales live near the sourface of the ocean but the sound was detected in deep ocean.
Second, the reading states that the sound were caused by giant squid. The professor refutes this point by saying that althoug giant squid is a better candidate for source of the sound, it cannot be the source of the sound. She says that the sound existed about two decades but it disappeared for a decade. She mentions that it lives in the ocean, as a result, if the sound causes by giant squid it must not disappear for a decade.
Third, the reading states that the sound caused by some military technology. The professor explains that it could not caused by the technology. She says that the sound around changes quickly. But today technology have not so fast.
