TPO

The article states that for most of the twentieth century, the science of archaeology was faced with serious problems and limitations in the United Kingdom and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that in 1990, new rules established in Britain which improved the situation and refutes each of the author’s reasons.

First, the reading claims that many valuable artifacts were lost to construction projects. The professor refutes this point by saying that according to those guidelines, before starting any construction, the site has to be examined. He states that if that site is an archaeological interest, officials should make a plan to preserve artifacts.

Second, the article posits that many archaeologists felt that the financial support for archaeological research was inadequate. However, the professor says that any construction accomplished should be paid by construction’s company, not government. According to the professor, this rule leads to increase in size of sites for construction.

Third, the reading says that it was difficult to have a career in archaeology. The professor opposes this point by explaining that now archaeologists are provided a lot of well-paid jobs. We also learn that this change has contributed to increase in number of scientists.
