The reading passage states that glass which is used in buildings is dangerous for wild birds because they cannot distinguish between glass and open air, so they try to fly through it and they are harmed. The article provides three solution for this problem. The professor states that non of the solutions are effective and refutes all of them.
First, the article claims that by replacing of clear glass with one-way glass the birds will distinguish the glass. The lecturer refutes this solution by saying that one-glass is like mirror and birds do not understand mirror. He explains that birds will see the reflect of sky or trees on the glass and will try ti fly on it which leads to damage for them.
Second, the reading passage proposes that by painting colorful lines or other designs on window birds can distinguish the glass. In contrast, the professor opposes this point by saying that birds will see the open spaces between lines as holes and will fly right through them. He says that for solving this problem, designs should be very compress with small open areas and this kind of designs make the inside of buildings too dark for people.
Finally, the article holds the view that using magnetic fields in the buildings will guide birds away from buildings. However, the professor casts doubt on this view and contends that the birds use magnetic fields to find their way in long trips. He explains that the birds use their eyes or brightness to fly in short distances.
Overall, while the passage brings three solutions to solve the problem of building glass for birds, The lecturer prefers to differ by providing counter arguments.
